ORC technology

The technology, which uses the so-called organic Rankine cycle, bases its working principle on the evaporation and condensation of the working medium, in this case using an organic compound with a low boiling point. This allows us to use it to produce electricity from lower temperature sources.

The principle of operation is based on the circulation of the working medium, which is heated in the steam generator (here a low-temperature source is responsible for providing heat), during this process the medium evaporates and passes to the turbine that generates electricity, after which it condenses again in the condenser. The cycle starts all over again. Below is an example of an ORC system.

Heat sources we can use include:

  • Waste heat recovery,
  • Biomass,
  • Geothermal,
  • Solar power plants.

Today, the use of ORC technology in business solutions is increasingly popular. Better use of primary energy sources (increased energy efficiency) with continued increases in energy prices, results in reduced fuel consumption. Which results in a decrease in the cost of operation of the company and less emissions of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. Therefore, in the current world striving for sustainable energy development, this is one option worth considering.
